About Bo

“Bo always wanted to be an sff writer, but still managed to forget that for most of her life. Unconsciously it did play a part in her choice of major and career, since she practiced a series of pointless yet for a writer vital professions like dishwasher, rowing coach, computer programmer, model  and management consultant. To be an astronaut, she lacked good vision, a penis, industry and technical talents, but that doesn’t keep her from writing sf. She’s neither a princess nor a white knight, yet completely illogically she doesn’t write about that kind of stuff. In short, she never knows  beforehand what will come out, but it will be peculiar and possibly slightly disgusting.”

Bo is a freelance writer who lives and works in the ancient Dutch city of Utrecht, close to Amsterdam. When she isn’t writing, you can find her madly designing knitwear, painting, and reading anything and everything from Kate Elliott to Iain M. Banks or Jared Diamond.

Her short fiction has appeared in F&SF, Nature Futures(forthcoming),  Penumbra, Electric Spec and quite a few anthologies. Her sf novel “The Wan” will be published in 2015 by Pink Narcissus Press.

  1. I recently read your “Skin Hunger” on the Nature web site. Although I have never read your work before, I appreciated reading this story. I was brought to tears as I read the account, not so much from the sf perspective, but from that of a fetus, caught-up in the middle of the life/choice controversy. Read the story again, with this framework in mind and you, too may see what I mean. Thank you.

    1. Thanks so much for your comment. I love your fetus interpretation. Have you seen the film “ In Utero” by Kathleen Gyllenhaal about that very subject?
